Fibered ribbon pretzel knots - what we know and what we want to know

Geometry and Topology Seminar

11th March 2025, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Fry Building, 2.04

Pretzel knots have been thoroughly studied in knot theory history because they hit a particular sweet spot: they are easy enough to handle and rich enough to present interesting phenomena. In this talk we will concentrate in the intersection of two knot properties: ribbonness and fiberedness. We will explain these concepts, discuss a result of Casson and Gordon which relates the two and present our latest results on classifying ribbon, fibered, pretzel knots. We will end the talk with some discussion of work in progress in the same area. This is joint work with Andy Wand.
