Prof. Anthony Lee and Dr. Andi Wang deliver talks at End-to-end Bayesian learning conference

Prof. Anthony Lee and Dr. Andi Wang recently gave talks at the End-to-End Bayesian Learning meeting, 25-29 October held at CIRM, Marseilles in France. The meeting brought together a large international group of researchers working on a range of Bayesian statistics problems, ranging from fundamental theory, to methodological guarantees, to applied Bayesian modelling. Anthony Lee gave […]

Paper published in JRSS(C)

Peter Green and honorary professor Julia Mortera have published an article in the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series C, Applied Statistics, on inference about complex relationships using peak height data from DNA mixtures. The paper presents models and methods for analysing forensic DNA profiles which evidently contain DNA from more than one individual, […]

Paper accepted in the Annals of Statistics

Dr Henry Reeve has had a paper accepted in the Annals of Statistics. In a multitude of potential AI applications, from precision medicine through to automated fraud detection, we are faced with a problem of data scarcity, whereby the practitioner only has access to a small quantity of data closely aligned to their task of […]

Welcome to Dennis Prangle

Dennis Prangle has joined the Institute for Statistical Science as Senior Lecturer. He received his PhD from Lancaster University in 2011, and has since worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Reading University and a lecturer at Newcastle University. His main research area is likelihood-free inference. This involves fitting statistical models when it is only possible […]

New paper published at JRSS(B)

Dr Song Liu’s paper ‘Two-sample inference for high-dimensional Markov networks’ has been accepted by the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Series B). Graphical models are probabilistic models that encode dependencies among random variables. By comparing two graphical models under two different settings, we gain important insights about our data: such as how gene networks react […]
