Making mathematics

In Making mathematics we will discuss some approaches to offering students and wider audiences inclusive, authentic and expressive experiences of mathematics. We will touch on two strands of work: ·
- Activities that bring to the fore the making of mathematics - conjecturing, posing and solving problems, crafting arguments and definitions, mathematics as a conversation with humans and/or materials;
- Crafting mathematics - studio experiences involving craftspeople and mathematicians, working on shared ideas and objects, leading to deeper appreciation of each other’s work and of the continuities and contrasts between them.

We will discuss implications for teaching and learning, and for mathematics. Do bring along examples of making mathematics you have or may wish to develop.
