Artin groups and the isomorphism problem

Geometry and Topology Seminar

4th February 2025, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Fry Building, 2.04

Artin groups form a large family of groups inherently connected to Coxeter groups. Examples of Artin groups include free groups, free abelian groups, braid groups and many more. While some Artin groups have remarkable algebraic and geometric properties, most Artin groups remain quite mysterious. In the first part of this talk, I will introduce several important notions in the theory of Artin groups. In the second part, I will talk about the isomorphism problem, which asks "When are two Artin groups isomorphic?", and I will present partial solutions to this question.
