Constructing real algebraic links
Algebra and Geometry Seminar
1st November 2017, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Howard House, 4th Floor Seminar Room
It is an open question in knot theory which knots and links are real algebraic, i.e. which knots and links arise as vanishing sets of real polynomial maps with certain properties.
In this talk I will present a method of constructing such polynomials, showing that infinitely many links, the closures of even powers of homogeneous braids, are real algebraic.
