Arithmetic properties of integers with missing digits have been studied by several authors. In this direction, Erdős, Mauduit, and Sárközy provided sufficient conditions for such sets to be uniformly distributed in residue classes. Recently, using a novel approach involving Markov chains, we established both necessary and sufficient conditions for uniform distribution. In this talk, we will present these results, give an overview of the proof of this new result, and briefly explore the broader context of more general digit restrictions, which can be addressed using techniques from symbolic dynamics.
