Moments of moments of random matrices: A combinatorial approach

In recent years there has been a lot of activity around the study of quantities called moments of moments of the characteristic polynomials of random matrices. In this talk I will first survey some of these developments. I will then mainly focus on an approach for studying the moments of moments based on symmetric function theory and combinatorics. This is based in part on joint works with Jon Keating and Emma Bailey.
