Jante's law for the particle systems

Probability Seminar

21st June 2019, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Main Maths Building, SM4

Equality is a cornerstone of the Swedish culture. "We’re all the same" mentality originates from the pan-Scandinavian concept of the Jante Law, the ten rules derived from a 1933 Aksel Sandemose's book "A Fugitive Crosses His Tracks". For many people who live in Scandinavia, these rules is subconsciously a part of their life. No one should be seen different from the "collective". This "law" has led to an egalitarian society with higher levels of humbleness than most other places.

In my talk, I will describe some interacting stochastic particle models, which emulate the development of such societies, and the convergence to the common "mean"
