Automorphism groups of axial algebras

Algebra Seminar

28th November 2023, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Fry Building, 2.04

Axial algebras are a class of commutative non-associative algebras which are inherently related to groups. Axial behaviour has also been found in algebras far afield from group theory, such as, say, Hsiang algebras arising in the non-linear PDE theory and the algebra of Ricci flows in differential geometry. However, the main focus has been on two classes of axial algebras modelled after the Griess algebra for the Monster group and Jordan algebras admitting the action of classical groups and G2.

In the talk, I’ll give a brief introduction into axial algebras and then focus on finding the full automorphism groups of axial algebras, including both theoretical and computational results.
