The Tate conjecture states the codimension r cycles on a variety can be described in terms the étale cohomology H^{2r}. I will discuss when the Tate conjecture for abelian varieties over finite fields can be proved by intersecting divisors, extending previous results of Dupuy--Kedlaya--Zureick-Brown, Lenstra--Zarhin, Tankeev, and Zarhin.
