The Cross-Ratio Degree Problem
Algebra Seminar
21st May 2024, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Fry Building, 2.04
The cross-ratio degree problem is an elementary combinatorial problem in algebraic geometry, which is surprisingly difficult to solve. I’ll discuss the problem and some methods for computing the answers, as well as some special cases that an appear in an array of contexts. I'll present an upper bound on cross-ratio degrees in terms of counting perfect matchings on bipartite graphs — whose proof is entirely geometric.
