Adventures in L-functions

Heilbronn Number Theory Seminar

29th November 2023, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Fry Building, G.09

L-functions are prolific in modern number theory and numerous invariants of them are often introduced without anyone ever explaining how they behave or how to compute them. I intend to partially rectify this by concentrating on two such invariants that appear in the functional equation: the conductor and the root number in the setting of abelian varieties and their Rankin—Selberg convolutions, generalising results of Bushnell—Henniart. Part of this is joint work with Ross Paterson.
