Models That Matter: How Mathematical Insights Can Shape Global Health Decision Making
Mathematical Explain & Explore Talks Seminar
17th November 2025, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Fry Building, 2.04
In this talk I’ll tell some stories about how I’ve used mathematical and statistical modelling to improve global public health. From estimating the number of infections that weren’t detected during an outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo to using satellite imagery to predict childhood poverty along with some summer students in the department. I’ll explore how working with people on the ground is important to making meaningful conclusions and share my experiences of setting up these collaborations. No knowledge of statistics is required! Perhaps you are working on some maths and thinking there could be some nice applications...
