How to make small things

To make a small object, ordinarily one needs a tool with features of corresponding size. Instead, we propose to harness the nonlinear character of free surfaces to focus them into very small features. The mathematical properties of such objects are governed by scale invariance. However, of particular interest are cases where the scale invariance of self-similar shapes is broken.
