Geometry of acylindrically hyperbolic groups

Geometry and Topology Seminar

16th November 2020, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Zoom seminar, if interested, please email one of the organisers to gain access to the Zoom link

The class of acylindrically hyperbolic groups is a vast generalisation of hyperbolicity which includes some of the most intensively studied families groups in geometric group theory: for example, mapping class groups and Out($F_n$). One of the major open questions in the area is whether acylindrical hyperbolicity is a quasi-isometry invariant. Using graphical small cancellation groups as a diverse source of examples I will discuss an approach to geometrically recognising acylindrical hyperbolicity, as well as some of its limitations.
