Understanding infinite groups via their actions on Banach spaces

Geometry and Topology Seminar

4th June 2024, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Fry Building, 2.04

This talk will discuss various versions of fixed point properties, generalizing property (T), and of proper actions on Banach spaces, generalizing a-T-menability, relevant in many areas (e.g. for the Baum-Connes conjectures, in combinatorics, for the study of expander graphs, in ergodic theory, etc.) I will describe some of these reformulations and their applications.

The talk is on joint work with John Mackay, and with Ashot Minasyan and Mikael de la Salle.
