Asymptotics and applications of orthogonal Polynomials

Mathematical Physics Seminar

24th February 2023, 1:45 pm – 3:30 pm
Fry Building, 2.04

In this talk we will revisit some classical properties and applications of orthogonal polynomials (OPs) defined on the real line. We will be particularly interested in the connection with integrable systems and with Hermitian ensembles in random matrix theory, as well as in the asymptotic analysis of OPs as their degree tends to infinity. As an extension of these ideas, we will present some recent results for matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials (MVOPs).

Based on joint work with B. Eijsvoogel (KU Leuven, Belgium, and Radboud University, The Netherlands), A. B. J. Kuijlaars (KU Leuven, Belgium) and P. Román (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina).
